On December 14th, 2023, Hiroshima University (HU) President Ochi gave a special lecture on the latest cutting-edge orthopedic surgical treatment methods at Thai Nguyen National Hospital in Vietnam. An audience of over 50 members consisting of doctors and students at the hospital gathered to listen to the lecture.
During the lecture, the audience listened with rapt attention as President Ochi used photographs and videos to explain about the results of his prior research, medical treatment methods, and the latest technology, focusing on methods of regenerative medicine for knee cartilage that he developed himself. His clinical research on treatment using magnets to cumulate cultivated bone marrow cells in the affected area garnered particular interest, with many follow-up questions being asked by the audience.
After the lecture was concluded, President Ochi toured the surgical ward of the hospital and held a discussion about the potential for future exchange. Dr. Nguyen Cong Hoang, Director of Thai Nguyen National Hospital, also expressed his hopes for future exchange, saying, “I would like to dispatch some of our doctors to Hiroshima University to study the latest medical technology and treatment methods there. I hope to use today’s lecture as a chance to deepen our connection.”
