In order to strengthen their cooperative relationship with respect to international cooperation for developing countries, Hiroshima University and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) entered into a cooperation agreement on December 14, 2005.

The University is engaged in activities focused on education, research, and making a social and international contribution, with the goal of becoming "a unique, world-class research university."  Activities focused on social cooperation and international exchange are actively promoted, in accordance with one of the five guiding principles established by the University, namely, "Collaboration with the local, regional, and international community".
 
In the future, based on this agreement, the University will further deepen cooperation and work on international cooperation with respect to the development of educational and research activities, the promotion of international cooperation, and the development of human resources.

This agreement is valid till March 31, 2010.
* This agreement has been renewed and validity extended to June 30, 2025.

The following matters are covered by this agreement for cooperation.

1. Education and research related to international cooperation
2. Projects that contribute to the development of the economy and society of developing countries as well as to the promotion of international cooperation
3. Development of human resources for international cooperation and international exchange.
4. Other matters agreed upon between the parties.

The signing ceremony was attended by 8 persons from JICA including JICA President Ms. Ogata and Chief Representative of JICA’s domestic office, Mr. Kato, and 19 persons from the University, including Mr. Muta, the President, Mr. Taniguchi, Vice President (Education/Research) and Mr. Ninomiya, Vice President (International), as well as by Mr. Waki from the Minister's Secretariat, Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
