Hiroshima University Vietnam Center

Location: University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, in Ho Chi Minh City (USSH)

In February 2010, Hiroshima University concluded an inter-university exchange agreement with Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (VNU-HCM); in November the same year, it established the Hiroshima University Vietnam Center at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, which is part of VNU-HCM, in order to serve as a base for exchange at that university.

One of two national universities in Vietnam, VNU-HCM is a general university that serves as an umbrella organization for a number of universities, including the Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Science, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities, the Ho Chi Minh City International University, and the Ho Chi Minh City University of Information Technology. In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is home to a number of other universities with which Hiroshima University has concluded exchange agreements, such as the Ho Chi Minh City Medicine and Pharmacy University, so it is anticipated that wide-ranging academic exchange will take place.

More specifically, it is gradually beginning to play a part as a base for securing international students from Vietnam, an in-country point of contact for students from Hiroshima University going to Vietnam to study or undertake training, a focus for academic exchange between Japan and Vietnam, a support base for cultural exchange activities and promoting teaching and learning of the Japanese language and Japanese studies in Vietnam, and a hub for the activities of the Hiroshima University Vietnam Alumni Association.
